Strange Electric Guitar Sounds by Steve Vai
This time I’ll describe to you some strange and sometimes ridiculous sounds, which can come out from your guitar.
In order to show themselves, to come out of the crowd, rock guitarists are required the specific amount of those unexpected strange sounds emanating from the instrument. This can be very effectively, but if this is used too frequently, then - ooo, no!
For the reproduction of some of these sounds it is required the specific type of amplifier and guitar. Basically this is a “loud” guitar with the double-sided system of tremolo.
1 Lower the string E by your tremolo arm until the strings begin to slap. Now try to play a little on lower E string.
2 The same as described above, only let the string E to magnetize to pickup. Raise and lower by the motion of the tremolo arm the string, so that it would slap when magnetized to the pickup.
3 Lower strings by the tremolo arm very low. Take flageolet on string G, above the 5th fret (or any others, which sounds). Move tremolo arm very rapidly, without raising string. Then return them to the normal position! Yahooo!
4 Unroll tremolo arm to 180 degrees from its usual position. Strike by the fist the body of guitar as hard, as you will be able. All this time the note must be sounding. It leads to the kind of tremolo distortion and makes it necessary to vibrate very rapidly. This, of course, not very good for the guitar, but it sounds excellently!
5 Tighten string B from the neck by the nail of the average finger of left hand and cover it for it. You must hear sufficiently ridiculous “peep”. This works also on string G. Making this effect, it is easy to damage nail. Be accurate.
6 Take note on string G by your second finger of the right hand. Now raise note upward on the neck until you leave after it limits. Continue to press to the string very strongly until it squeak on the pickups. It is very funny. It sounds in the manner as if small animals come out of your guitar.
7 Take strings after the lower fret. If you use locking system this effect will not come out.
8 If you have strings on the tremolo system, take them by the mediator.
9 Shout loudly into the sound pickups.
10 Pull the highest note on your guitar, until the string breaks.
11 Slide by mediator downward on the strings in order to obtain the gnashing rocking sound.
12 If you repeat the previous method many times, then your mediator will become sufficiently rough on the edges. This will benefit in such as:
a) Rub by the rough end of the mediator, taking note. This will give “glassy” effect to the sound.
b) Try to play C on string G. Rub fret D by the rough end of the mediator very rapidly.
There are millions of additional effects. You can study and improve each of these examples to the infinity. Stun the audience!!!
